longevity
design
fivetonine doesn’t subscribe to the idea of seasons. Our clothes are designed to be trans-seasonal and timeless. Clothes you can live in now, and see yourselves in 10+years from now. Clothes that are versatile enough to accommodate for all the moments of your life. The clothes you can’t wait to change into, and never want to take off.
As well as being trans-seasonal, we are committed to making clothes that will last. This means choosing high quality fabric that is fit for purpose, but also designing clothes that are flattering and constructed well. After all, clothes you feel comfortable and good in, are clothes you are less inclined to ditch for something else.
Our items are cut and sew, which means we didn’t use a pre-designed pattern, or stock patterns for our clothing. Every shape and detail you see in our garments were designed by us, for you. And, let us tell you, the design process was no small feat. It took longer than expected and desired. In the world of a pandemic where timelines are already delayed, it would have been so easy for us to say ‘it will do’. But we didn’t. Instead, we went through as many fittings and samples as it took to ensure our clothes are ones you would want to keep.
fabric
As this is a loungewear brand, it was super important to us that we selected high quality, durable fabric that will last. Like the design and fitting process, we took our time sampling fabrics. A soft cosy handfeel was a priority during this testing phase, but the number one priority was always quality. After months of back and forth with our supplier, we found two fabrications we loved. From here, we conducted quality tests on the fabric - primarily for pilling and shrinkage. If it didn’t meet the test, we went back to square one.
Eventually, we found two fabrications that were the desired handfeel and weight, and tested really well.
As above, a soft cosy handfeel was a priority. Our thoughts process: the softer our clothes, the more you will feel cosy and want to keep them. So, we did something called ‘enzyme washing’. This is a process whereby the fabric is pre-washed, to achieve a cosy feel and is more sustainable. However, sometimes a heavy enzyme wash can jeopardise the quality of the fabric. Again, quality first. So we did at the highest level we could to achieve maximum softness, without compromising on quality.
